Yeah, you're right to an extent. It DOES jump at and pounce on your hand when you wiggle your fingers. I think the camera just looks for the movement, though, it's not recognizing your actual location. I imagine EyePet got delayed in America to include Arc support at launch, which should make EyePet work even better. Natal does have an edge, though, in that it "knows" the 3D space. Natal could see your body in actual 3D space and incorporate that into the game by moving things ...
I agree. I think Natal is still a bit impractical because it uses too much processing power.
Oh, or did you mean "ahead of its time"? I disagree with that.
I'm sorry, but EyePet doesn't actually do that. I've seen videos where the eyepet walks right over the image of the person as if they weren't there. FryDay is right that, since Natal recognizes the player in 3D space, the EyePet could actually walk AROUND or ONTO you if it were done on Natal. Sony actually was working with similar tech 5 years ago, but passed on it for some reason.
I find it very ironic that the highest profile titles for PSEye and Natal are, respectively, Eye...
Microsoft certainly had some to do with the success of the Gears of War series, but the main thing that made it a success is the fact that when Gears of War came out NOTHING compared to it. Gears was the first real "next-gen" game. Even other 360 games in that first year looked barely better than Xbox games. I remember the first image i saw of any at-the-time-next-gen games was an image in EGM of a creature from an unannounced game that turned out to be the Brumak from Gears.
I do think the presentation was thrown together, but i'm sure that Sony was actively working on this thing with plans to release it. They wouldn't make a hasty decision like that. I do believe the presentation was thrown together from a tech demo presentation that was being given internally at Sony, but Natal didn't make them say "Oh, we better come out with something, too." It DID make them say "Oh, we better reveal what we have now rather than later."
Since everybody is making games for the Wii, and the Arc (if that's what it will be called) is very similar to the Wii-mote, there will probably be a lot of Wii/PS3 multi-plats. It would be a very simple matter to make a PS3 version of any Wii game. Looking at the Wii's library, though, I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. It could mean a lot of bad games, or it could mean people buying a PS3 instead of a Wii because of HD and more core games. Nintendo is huge among the cas...
If i recall correctly, the TV's are going to cost about 10% more than comparable 2-D sets. The glasses are supposed to be in the neighborhood of $75 per pair, i think.
I saw something saying that the glasses are going to cost about $75 each. Keep in mind that they are essentially a pair of transparent monochromatic LCD screens synced up with the TV via a wireless connection. The glasses that you get in the theater are cheaply made polarized lenses.
I'm sure both will be great. Comparing them, though, is kind of like comparing a Ferrari to a Rolls Royce.
You say you get bored by hack 'n slashes, some people get bored by RPG's. Just a matter of preference.
I'm sorry, but you ARE wrong on the 1920 x 1080 thing. 1080 is the number of lines HIGH and the 1920 is the number of lines ACROSS. Notice how HDTV's are wider than they are high. As for what GT5P is running at, I don't know, but you just have a fundamental mistake in your argument. If GT5P really is running at 1280 x 1080, then you're right that that is not "true" 1080p, though.
It seems that people are confusing horizontal and vertical. horizontal lines go sidewa...
It makes me wonder what rational people think about it.
Every publisher is going to want to test out this new tech and see how it is to develop for and how much money they can make off of it.
They removed the processor to reduce consumer cost. I'm sure some developers were a little pissed about losing that processor power, but it was a smart move by Microsoft. After all, Natal's target audience has proven with the Wii that they don't care about graphics, so lower cost means more sales for MS, probably without sacrificing profit margin per unit, either.
I don't think they are ASSUMING that the WORST developers are working on Natal, but you're right that it wasn't quite fair to say that because it could also be the BEST developers working on it. I think the point they are trying to make is that there are only a few publishers, so saying 80% makes it sound like there will be more games than there will be. I just ran through my whole collection and counted 14 publishers. Certainly there are more than that, but don't confuse publishers for de...
I do like to play online now and then, but i just prefer the more cohesive, narrative experience of a single player game. Not everybody who likes something different than you has to be a fanboy, you know.
People who have not yet bought an HDTV may, when they make that plunge, invest a little extra in a 3D TV instead. It's not like you have to buy a regular HDTV before you buy a 3D TV. I myself plan on replacing my SDTV with an HDTV, but now i might replace that one with my non-3D-ready HDTV and put a 3D TV into my home theater system.
They will make their money off of sales of 3D Blu-Ray movies. Not only are they one of the owners of blu-ray technology, but Sony Pictures is a huge movie studio. They will also make money from sales of 3D cameras, as well. Avatar was filmed using Sony cameras, for example. In fact, the more 3D TV's that sell by ANY manufacturer is good for Sony, because if 3D becomes popular in homes, people will demand it in the theaters, where Sony can make money by selling 3D projectors. And if regul...
I didn't forget about Jimmy Fallon, i clearly remember that nobody could keep the car on the road because of the lag. I actually did forget about the magazine articles, and you are right there. I guess what i'm saying is that the marketing for Natal has barely begun, and is halted for now. We will see a blitz for it around the time of launch, i expect. I will agree with you, though. For the "casual gamers" Natal is largely forgotten about for now. A short spurt of hype, then n...
I wouldn't have expected it, but with the "wand" supposedly releasing in the spring, i would expect to start seeing more info soon.
I think that with Natal's internal processor now removed, core games will relegate Natal controls to mini-game type functions instead of using it during regular gameplay. Developers won't want to sacrifice graphics in core games, so they will have to use Natal in isolated events. Casual gamers, though, have proven with the Wii that they don't care about the graphics.
